The area surrounding the Church of Santiago offers one of the most captivating and enchanting corners of old Guadix. The church was designed by the great architect and sculptor Diego de Siloé, who, starting from a traditional Mudéjar temple model, incorporated some particularly innovative elements, such as its monumental portal, the curved ends of the side aisles, and the roof structure of the main chapel.
The exterior offers a special appeal due to the whiteness of its walls, the broken arrangement of the chapels and naves, which motivates the elegant break in the roofs, the ceramic spire of the tower and the monumental Renaissance portal.
Of particular note is "the shell", which adorns several corners and could well be a symbol of the Apostle James, who passed through our city.
