The president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, has announced that the institution will allocate 1.5 million euros for the purchase of a convent in Guadix that will house this space dedicated to Granada's Holy Week celebrations.
The president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, announced this morning the purchase of the Convent of the Conception in Guadix, which will be the headquarters of the first Provincial Museum of Holy Week in Granada, for which the institution will allocate 1.5 million euros.
“We are facing a new museum space that will be a major attraction for the entire province,” said Rodríguez during this morning’s press conference, in which he detailed the importance of its strategic location in a regional capital city that is suffering the effects of depopulation and is the gateway to the Geopark.
“We are going to strengthen the offer with this added value in a city with a strong religious character, the seat of a bishopric and with a large architectural heritage with this first Provincial Museum of Holy Week which will be a catalyst generating wealth and new opportunities.”
The mayor of Guadix, Jesús Lorente, was present at the announcement made by the president of the Provincial Council and stated that “today is a great day for our city as we enhance our heritage with the restoration of an emblematic building while showcasing the richness of Granada's Holy Week celebrations.” He also highlighted the importance of the collaboration between the Guadix City Council and the Granada Provincial Council in making this project a reality.
